FAQ

General paragliding questions

Like any air sport, paragliding carries risk, but training, good decision-making, and suitable weather conditions reduce it significantly. Most flights are calm and uneventful when done within safe limits and with proper preparation. Join our school to learn more!

A paraglider wing flies similarly to an airplane wing. In calm conditions, a paraglider slowly descends while gliding forward through the air. To stay up longer or gain height, pilots use rising air — commonly known as thermals, which are columns of warm air rising from the ground, or ridge lift created when wind is deflected upward by terrain like hills or cliffs. Skilled pilots move between these sources of lift to extend flights and travel long distances without an engine.

Most paragliding flights take place relatively close to the ground, often a few hundred to a couple thousand meters above launch, depending on terrain and weather. In strong thermal conditions and mountainous areas, pilots can climb much higher by circling inside rising air currents, sometimes reaching 3,000–5,000 meters or more. Very high-altitude flights are rare and require careful planning due to colder temperatures, thinner air, and airspace restrictions.

Yes — we run structured paragliding training for beginners, covering ground handling, basic theory, and supervised flight practice in suitable conditions.

You can find full course details and how training is organised on our school page.

A basic paragliding setup consists of the wing, harness, helmet, and reserve parachute. A variometer is a small device that shows whether you are climbing or descending, helping pilots identify rising air and stay in lift. Mobile apps are widely used for navigation and flight tracking, while a radio is commonly carried for communication and safety, particularly during training or in crowded airspace.
